HELPP! :) Will ANY CAMERA WORK on the Joby GP1-EBEN Gorillapod Flexible Tripod?

Honestly, i don't know how tripods work. I mean I know what they do, but I don't get how the camera stays on it without falling off. Will my point and shoot panasonic lumix dmc-zs3 work for it???
