Why do I say certain words like I'm from New York?

I say certain words like for, four, before, order, here, car, ER and anything that ends in -er like I'm from New York. I've never lived there and never been there. I was born and raised in Chicago, IL and still live there. Why do I talk like that? Just curious because I was talking to my friend from Utah on the phone and she said I talk funny. :) I mean no offense to any New Yorkers.
