How do i help red mange?

I, too had a puppy, an English Springer Spaniel that I had planned on breeding. She got something awful looking so I took her to the vet, it was red mange. I was told that she should be spayed and not bred because it is transmitted through the blood to the puppies, and that it will show up whenever the female is hormonally distressed, like when she goes into heat. I had my dog spayed, and was glad I did, her out breaks where awful and she suffered when she had her heat the first time. I did it and the mange went away with the hormone stuff.
