WHat should I do?

I live in Puerto Rico. How can I enahnce my writing skills? I speak Spanish and I'm trying to write well. What is thebest way? I know everything is to practice, but is there another way ? a book? How can I be more conscise and articulate? I want to study at University of Illinois Chicago.
